The 3-Minute Quiet Release Protocol

Before you start: pick one check-in spot (jaw, throat, chest, or gut). Rate tightness 0–10.

1) Foot Press — 45 seconds (Grounded Pressure)

I have weight. I have place.

  • Both feet on the floor.
  • Press down firmly for 10 seconds, release. Repeat x3.
  • Let weight drop as if the floor says, we’ve got you.

Why it works: Heaviness + contact signal safety to the nervous system and interrupt dissociation (“paper-doll” feeling).

2) Butterfly Taps — 90 seconds (Bilateral Rhythm)

Arms crossed, palms on upper arms. Tap left–right like a slow drum (about 1 beat/second). While tapping, name:

  • 1 neutral thing you see
  • 1 neutral thing you hear
  • 1 neutral thing you feel (e.g., chair, fabric)

Why it works: Bilateral stimulation unhooks looping and widens focus without story time.

3) Low Hum — 45 seconds (Vagus Nerve + Long Exhale)

Unclench your jaw. Inhale gently, then hum mmm (or “voo”) on a long, slow exhale. Feel the gentle buzz in lips/chest. Repeat 2–3 times.

Why it works: Vagal tone increases with vocalization + extended exhale → heart rate slows, body downshifts.

4) Close — 15 seconds

One more foot press and a soft, fog-the-mirror exhale. Re-rate your check-in spot.

Even a 1-point drop is a win. Many people feel a big shift within minutes.


Common Mistakes (and Fixes)

  • Hunting for memories to prove it worked → Don’t. Your body isn’t a courtroom. Track jaw/breath instead.
  • Marathon sessions → Micro + often beats epic + once.
  • Grading by tears → Yawns, sighs, warmth, settling = progress.

Make it Stick: Practice & Track

Consistency rewires safety. Run the mini reset when you notice looping, freeze, or spikes—before the meeting, call, or conversation. Track starting/ending numbers for a week and watch your baseline change.
